ALSVID ROLLS TO KIP DEVILLE SCORE, REMAINS UNDEFEATED
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Remington Park series of 2-year-old stakes races started Friday night with the six-furlong $75,000 Kip Deville Stakes going to the undefeated Alsvid.
Owned by Black Hawk Stable of Elk City, Okla. and trained by Chris Hartman, Alsvid was ridden confidently by Chris Landeros. The strapping 2-year-old gelding opened up a three-length lead in the stretch after moving to the front of the field early in the race. That flash of front-running ability was a bit of a new development for his jockey after they left the starting gate from the number two post.
“I didn’t think we’d be up there early,” Landeros said. “They left him some room at the rail and he moved on it. He knew what he was doing tonight, it was his second time out and he did it pretty easy.”
Alsvid won his career debut on Sept. 8 with a wide-sweeping move in the turn, dictated mostly by an outside post position for his first race. He looked professional in the stretch in both of his stretch runs to victory. However, Landeros believes he may have more potential.
“He started to look at the screen (50-foot Super Screen) in the stretch tonight so I stayed after him but he’s still learning and that’s the exciting part.”
Alsvid crossed the finish 1-1/2 lengths ahead of beaten 2-1 wagering favorite Sum Of The Parts who pressured the front throughout the Kip Deville but could never make the lead. Jake Mo rallied from seventh early in the race to reach third, three and a half lengths behind the winner.
Alsvid handled the distance in a sharp 1:09.04 over a fast track.
Away at 9-2 in the betting, Alsvid paid $11 to win, $6.40 to place and $3.40 to show. Sum Of The Parts returned $3.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Jake Mo paid $3 to show.
A bay gelding by Officer from the Afternoon Deelites mare Reagle Mary, Alsvid was bred in Kentucky by Yanagawa Stud. He is a perfect two-for-two in his career with both efforts this season at Remington Park. The Kip Deville winner’s share of $45,000 increases the young-career earnings for Alsvid to $61,545.
Next up for Alsvid in the Remington Park 2-year-old stakes series is the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes on Nov. 11 at seven furlongs. The series culminates with the $300,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 10.
Remington Park Thoroughbred racing continues Saturday with 10 races getting underway at 6:30pm.
