We’ll bet that when she woke up on Saturday morning, Oct. 8, trainer Michele Boyce didn’t imagine that by the end of the day she’d be “seeing double.” Double-stakes winners that is, with two Boyce-trained Illinois-foaled charges winning a pair of 1-1/16 miles, $60,000 Stakes races, the Robert F. Carey and Indian Maid at Hawthorne Race Course.

In the Carey, Princeville Condo, a son of Morluc, avoided potential trouble after being blocked and angling four-wide with rider Josbin “JZ” Santana guiding the gelding to a half-length win over Gleam of Hope and Tazz after a tremendous surge in the stretch. Proceed Bee and Mr. Vegas dead-heated for fourth. Princeville Condo is owned by Cherrywood Stables II and Terry Biondo.

The Boyce-Cherrywood-Santana team struck earlier in the Indian Maid with a win by Happy Henrietta, masterfully ridden by Santana who got out fast and never looked back despite a final surge by Mourette. Happy Henrietta won by three lengths with Mourette second and Instant Style third. Trac N Jam was the fourth place finisher.
