One of the premier horse rescue fund raising events of the fall takes place on Nov. 10 in St. Louis, MO. “A Night with the Mid America Horse Rescue (MAHR)” is an event to help raise funds for rehabilitating and retraining ex-racehorses for adoption, or for therapy programs to serve people in need. All proceeds will go directly to rescued thoroughbreds.
Mid-America Horse Rescue, a non-profit organization based in Millstadt, Ill., was founded in 2008. The organization also assists the racing industry by encouraging the development of retirement funds to support horses after their racing career is finished. The facility currently cares for about 50 Thoroughbreds with needs ranging from training to complex medical care.
The event takes place at the Morgan Street Brewery in St. Louis from 7 PM to 10 PM on Nov. 10. “Early Bird” discounted tickets to the event are on sale now until Oct. 31 for $75.00 with attendees to be treated to an open bar featuring handcrafted beer, wine and mixed drinks. An array of appetizers including juicy beef tenderloin and ribs with orange habanero barbecue glaze, cracked wheat salad with grilled vegetables, smoked turkey and white bean soup and delectable desserts will be included. The evening will also include a 50-50 raffle and an auction.
Fran Natoli, founder and program director of Arise Equine Therapy, will be there to share how horses can improve the lives of children and adults who are mentally and physically challenged. MAHR is launching its therapy services in collaboration with Arise Equine Therapy. Attendees will be among the first to hear how these services will benefit the community.
Also attending the event will be Alex Brown, horse welfare advocate and New York Times-published author of Greatness and Goodness: Barbaro and his Legacy. Brown has brought national awareness to horse welfare through the legacy of Barbaro, the racehorse who fought for life after his Kentucky Derby win. Signed copies of Brown’s book will be available for purchase.
