Andy Hansen’s Trac N Jam wins Indiana Distaff

Trac N Jam, a 3-year old Illinois-based filly trained by Andy Hansen, won the $137,000 Indiana Distaff at Indiana Downs on the last day of the meet, July 13. The daughter of El Correador made a huge late move splitting horses to best Notassharpasuthink, who led late and finished just behind. Gold N Glamour was third.

Under a gutsy ride by Jermaine Bridgmohan, Trac N Jam broke well, but lagged near the back of the field before shifting into high gear. The win was Trac N Jam’s third straight having broken her maiden at Arlington Park on May 14 before winning a $30,000 Allowance last out, also at Arlington. Among the nine-horse field was Bouquet Booth, fifth place finisher by 3-1/4 lengths in the 2011 Kentucky Oaks and the show horse in the Regret. She was ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, brother of Jermaine. Also racing was Lone Star shipper, Grandacious, who came in with two consecutive wins.

Sent off at odds of 8-1 ($19.00), the Kentucky-bred covered the one-mile distance in 1:37.81 on a firm turf. The longer odds were no worry for trainer Hansen, who told MWT, “This filly has been going so well that despite the tough field, we felt she could win this race.”

Trac N Jam is owned by Ted and Jean Barlas and Mike Porcaro, Editorial Director and Publisher of Midwest Thoroughbred magazine.
