Berry Posts Triple to Regain Lead in Jockey Standings

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jockey Cliff Berry, Remington Park’s all-time wins leader, rode three to victory on Wednesday night to move back to the top of the jockey standings for the 2011 Thoroughbred Season. With seven days remaining Berry leads Luis Quinonez by one win, 60-59.

Berry, of Jones, Okla.,  started the night by riding both halves of the Daily Double in the first two races with Quest For Candy ($9 to win) in race one and Flyskyfly ($6.60) in race two. He guided Smoken Rachael ($4) to her second straight win in the eighth race of the night to complete his hat trick.

Berry and Quinonez have taken turns going back and forth at the top of the jockey standings for weeks. Quinonez came into Wednesday leading by two before Berry leaped passed to regain the advantage. Berry is attempting to win his 14th Pat Steinberg Memorial Award, denoting the leading jockey by wins in the Thoroughbred Season.
