It’s quite a feat for any horse at any level to string together 3,4, or 5 wins in a row. However, when that steak goes to 9,10,11, then……19, it’s something that becomes way beyond “special.”

Forget that Rapid Redux was the 1-5 favorite in a five horse field in a $7,500 Starters Allowance at 7 furlongs in today’s (Oct. 27) 6th race at Laurel Park. It was very special after the 5-year old chestnut gelding made racing history by tying the record of 19 straight wins held by the now-immortal Zenyatta and Peppers Pride.

Rapid Redux, trained by David Wells and ridden by J.D. Acosta, handled the muddy surface in a time of 1:24.07 winning by 2-3/4 lengths. He fought off the challenge of Rich Hero, who broke slowly, but held serve until Rapid Redux took command with three furlongs remaining.

Owner Robert Cole told Daily Racing Form, “It was a little tougher than I was expecting, but we got it done.”

It’s been a year and two weeks since Cole claimed the son of Pleasantly Perfect on Oct. 13, 2011. He’s won a mind-boggling 20 race for Cole in that span.
