Nestled in the heart of Indiana’s horse country in Anderson located just a few furlongs away from Hoosier Park is RichWine llc fast becoming one of the state’s bastions of prolific stallions.

With facilities known by horsemen throughout the area as being first class, owner Leigh Ann Richwine says she is most proud of “our new state of the art facility especially designed for breeding and foaling.”

“Our facility cannot accurately be described as fancy or high profile,” Richwine told MWT.com. “We are especially designed and constructed as a foaling and breeding facility in a very practical, ‘get the job done right,’ results are the bottom line kinda way,” Richwine said.

With a well-experienced farm and stallion manager in Kerry Hopper, RichWine is a 24-hour on-site care facility featuring turnout paddocks, camera-monitored foaling stalls and veterinary care on the premises.

Leigh Ann Richwine says, “Really the ‘results’ principle is one big reason clients come to us. We get clients throughout the season who want the job done well, watch for a safe delivery of the foal, stay on top of the mare's needs and her breeding schedule, pay attention to her signals, get her cared for and bred back without wasting time or money.

Richwine’s business philosophy is reflected in the impressive stallion roster standing at the farm. Featuring some of the Hoosier state’s best, the RichWine roster is most impressive.

The shed’s residents include Ocean Indy, a son of A.P. Indy, one of the greats, who was retired from stud in 2010. Article Of Faith is an eight-year old out of Storm Cat and Grade I winner Nany’s Sweep by End Sweep. He has already produced sound winners, including Slacker, winner of the Indiana Stallion Stakes, Article and Sarah Hug owned by noted owner Ron McKay.

“This past summer (in 2011) was the first time Article Of Faith and Ocean Indy had off spring running at the track. This was the moment of ‘proof’ to the stallions worth,” Richwine said of two of her “stars.”

“We were thrilled because Ocean Indy's first runner, Indy Pie, won her first race. Article of Faith had a money winner,” said a proud Richwine. “Soon after, Slacker came along and won her race. Over all, the offspring of both Ocean Indy and Article of Faith had a great season.”

In fact, on Oct. 23, Slacker won the Indiana Stallion Stakes with Indy Pie finishing second for a Richwine exacta! On that same day in one of the Hoosier state’s premier races for the boys, the Crown Ambassador Stakes, Article of Faith's colts ran big when Article finished second, Consumed finished third and Complacency finished fourth.

The results speak for themselves as Article Of Faith was the Leading Indiana Freshman Sire in 2011 with Ocean Indy the third leading Indiana Freshman Sire for the year.

Few sires have been as successful in the past five years as Indian Charlie. His son, Charging Indian, out of a Marquetry mare, Charging Water, was nominated to the Indiana-bred program and the Breeders’ Cup.

Blue Boat is another standout at RichWine. He is the son of Gulch, winner of over $3M, out of the stakes producing mare, Kinema. Half brother to Mizzen Mast, Blue Boat is also nominated to the Indiana-bred program and the Breeders’ Cup.

Indiana has produced a number of great successes in the last five years, including a sire of a Breeders’ Cup champion. RichWine llc is in a great position to bring it to greater heights.

Leigh Ann Richwine sums it up for RichWine llc when she says, “Be responsible and attentive, and go the extra mile when it's necessary.”
