My Bellamy Wins Frances Slocum at Hoosier Park

My Bellamy gave trainer Robert Gorham one more stakes win for 2011 at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, bringing home the trophy in the $84,000 Frances Slocum Stakes. Ridden by Alberto Pusac, the three-year-old My Bellamy is owned by Henry Mast’s Mast Thoroughbreds.

Starting from post one, My Bellamy was in contention the entire way during the one and one-sixteenth mile event. Pusac kept the filly in the lead the entire way, fending off pressure from Dreamin Big and Chris Emigh and Wind Energy and Jon Court.

In the stretch, My Bellamy appeared to drop back as Wind Energy got a short lead. However, both My Bellamy and Dreamin Big came back in the final strides, giving the decision to My Bellamy by three-quarters of a length over Dreamin Big at the wire. Wind Energy held steady for third.

“I was really surprised the filly (My Bellamy) came back on the inside in the stretch,” said Gorham, who won three stakes races on Indiana Derby Day. “The jock (Alberto Pusac) really did a good job of keeping after her and getting her to the wire.”

My Bellamy has four wins in 10 starts for 2011. She now has more than $200,000 in career earnings for the Gorham-Mast connections.

The win for Pusac was his second on the program. The native of Peru also connected in the first race with Dei Gratia. Pusac moved into the top 10 on the leading rider standings with his riding double on closing day.
